Big Issue Cover Analysis
- This cover for the Big Issue is focusing on Prince Harry, its very typical for the Big Issue to have one huge picture of a person that takes up the whole cover with small writing on the side. This picture of Prince Harry is very stereotypical as almost all the time Prince Harry is in a suit looking smart for the public and media, it also keeps his image as he is known as serious yet funny as he is caught laughing at something. The angle is a straight on shot just showing his head so the readers know what their focusing on. At the bottom left of the cover it say 'Prince Harry Man on a Misson', for most people they wont know what they mean and lots of people are interested in the royal family so will read that and buy it just to find out what's going on, yet it would catch their eye any way as their is a yellow banner behind it and the writing is blue. This particular newspaper is aimed at older people as not many younger people would be interested in the royal family. Normally the Big Issue master head is in black and white but for this cover its in yellow that could be to stand out and make sure everyone knows who it is or it could be that it matches with his hair or suit. Their layout is always very important and you can tell they take time to colour code it to make sure that they are matching with the boarder as well as the small print. For other readers who maybe aren't interested in the royal family they have at the top in small print other things that are in the newspaper for example 'The Mummy' for people who enjoy films and other titles that will appeal to all different types of people. An similarity with their covers is that they seem to capitalise all their words this could be just to stand out but also to make it matching and it will be easier to read for people walking past to look at. As the background isn't white there aren't any 'white spaces' yet there are many gaps of that could be filled with other stories yet they decide to only add the important things and keep it cleaner and less full/ chaotic.
- With this cover it takes a more colourful approach as Liam Gallagher it standing in front as a light blue background wearing a bright pink jacket, just below his chin is the word 'LIAM' in big bold capitalised black writing so it stands out from everything else, they only put Liam and not Liam Gallagher as they are expecting people to know who he is but also for people who don't know who he is and want to know more about him. It seems like their audience for this newspaper is a younger audience as more younger people might know him yet older people might know him from the bands Oasis or Beady Eye, but he also has been a solo singer. Below his name overlapping its a quote in black standing out over Liam saying "It was always all about me anyway" for people who don't know him this might not mean much but for fans of him this could mean a lot so it might appeal to them to buy it and find out what he said this about, at the very bottom in white capitals which is a bit harder to see it says 'The Big Issue Interview' this shows that the main focus not only on the front cover but in the newspaper is the interview with Liam Gallagher as it is rare for such a big newspaper to do an interview which such a famous and popular singer. The layout also follows the features of their others as there is a good amount of writing so their readers know what's going on, yet not too much that it is chaotic so they leave a good amount of 'white space'.
- This is an odd cover as it doesn't follow many of their other covers, this one is based around Trump as seen with a huge head but a tiny body. What's so strange about this cover is that they don't usually make it so chaotic not with the amount of writing but the amount that's going on. On the cover you can see a photo shopped picture of Donald Trumps head on a tiny boy with the world covering the left side of his face, this could be implying that the thinks he is better than he is as his head is so big, it could also mean that he thinks the rules the world as the world is so small compared to him, at the top left of the cover their is their normal logo black and white saying 'The Big Issue' but just to the right side their is a photo shopped picture of Vladimir Putin shitless riding and eagle over Trumps head, this could be saying that Putin is looking over Trump and he is secretly in control but its hard to say as its such a strange picture. At the bottom right of the cover to the side of Trumps feet their is a man being kicked out of the Whitehouse this could be a joke saying that Trump didn't get in the Whitehouse fairly that he forced his way in and kicked Obama out. In the background of everything the is lightening which looks like it is striking the world this could mean that as Trump is 'in control looking over the world' that the world is in danger and is being damaged by Trump. The main bit of writing is covering the world saying 'What's the worse that could happen...' this could be a joke meaning we are in danger of Trump.
