Music Videos
The video is mainly featuring teenagers, the only exception is a mother with her son and a homeless man. Throughout the video it shows a teenage girl with pink smoke coming from the back of her roller-skates going around different streets of America, the smoke makes people dance when they smell it or they are standing in it. Its clearly dance music from the electric beat in the background along with the singing over the top.
For this video it follows a group of friends around to different places where they dance, it seems like they get most of their enjoyment from dance and from looking at the area it seems like they don't have much money. A similarity between all of the videos is that its a life style most teenagers wish they had and shows how by dance it can make people happier, maybe not in this video as it seems like the teenagers are living in a poorer area, but they all have their friends and seem much happier from dancing.
This video mainly relies on the editing as there isn't much dancing and without the editing there wouldn't be much to look at, but with the editing it seems like there is much more going on, there is also more colour as the editing makes the colours change at different parts. The electronic beat/ bass in the background is what makes it dance music, but the dancing from the different girls also shows that its dance music. It seems that the target audience is teenagers or young adults because it is all shot in a mansion with a group of girls, and for most teenagers living in a mansion with there friends is a dream, it is also the type of music teenagers like as its dance music with the electronic beat in the back.
Like the other songs the video shows the life styles of teenagers, this is because the dance music is mainly aimed at teenagers and it makes them want the type of life style the people in the video. You can tell it is dance music because it has a catchy corus that people can easy sing along to, then there is a beat drop with a beat so people can dance to it, it is also shown as dance music because the people in the video are dancing.
Another dance song is 'Easy Love' by Sigala, this follows many of the conventions of dance music, for example cathchy lyrics leading up to a drop with a good beat, however although this music video also shows people dancing they are younger than the others, the teenagers in this might be around 13 or younger, however it still shows their life style, and follows the same codes and conventions as the others.
The final song I picked is 'Wish you were mine' by Philip George, this like the rest is dance music as shown from the beat, it also is very simple lyrics as the name of the song is the majority of the words that are in the song, this is because teenagers like a song they can easy sing along to. The music video doesn't follow a group of teens this time, however it does follow one boy who shows how dance can change his boring life into something fun and exiting.
