News: An Evolving Media Product
Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html
When going on their website there are loads of images and small clips that you can look at, there are also adverts on the sides and top, the pictures are used to attract the audience then you can read the small summary and click the link to find out more. Down the middle there are big pictures with writing at the bottom of them, and down the right hand side there are small pictures. Compared to their newspaper their website is much more chaotic with the amount of pictures and links you can click on. Compared to the printed version their website also has lots of adverts with moving pictures and videos constantly popping up and playing on the sides of the page. It is clear that the way they make most of their profit is by the amount of adverts they have on the sides that other companies pay them to put on.
The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/uk
The Guardians website is similar to the Daily Mail as they both have loads of pictures yet The Guardian is much more structured and has a better layout, its easier to find your way around the page, its clear that for older people The Guardian would be a better website to visit as its much more clear and structured yet doesn't seem to have as many different stories. Their website does have some adverts on the side but it isn't as chaotic as they have other articles on the side as well which take over from the flood of adverts like on the Daily Mails website. After looking at both websites it does seem like they follow their printed newspaper copies as the layout does follow some of the same codes and conventions. Rather than having loads of adverts like the Daily Mail the main way I believe they make profit is by making their newspaper a higher quality and raising the price.
Similarities: Both of their online websites have links to other related articles but also loads of pictures and a small description of who took it, where and who it is, for both papers this would make there reader feel happier as they know its legitimate and can read other articles if they enjoy what they read. Adverts play a huge part of profit in their newspapers but its clear that the Daily Mail does get more money from their adverts as their website it littered with adverts all around the sides and some at the top and bottom, whereas The Guardian is much more calm and doesn't have as many adverts.
