1) How old is the BBC? the BBC is 96 years old
2) Who is Lord Reith and what connection does he have with the BBC? Lord Reith is the founder of the BBC, he was its first general manager when it was set up in 1922, and he was first director general when it became a public corporation in 1927
3) When did it start broadcasting Radio 1? it started on the 30th of September 1967
4) What are the BBC's five Public Purposes, as set out in the Royal Charter? the 5 public purposes set out by the Royal Charter are:
-to provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them
-to support learning for people of all ages
-to show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services
-to reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all the UK's nations and regions and in doing so support the creative economy across the UK
-to reflect the UK, its culture and values to the world
5) What is the BBC's Mission? their mission is to enrich peoples lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain
6) What is the BBC's Vision? their vision is to be the most creative organisation in the world
7) What are the BBC's Values? their values are:
-trust is the foundation of the BBC; they are independent, impartial and honest
-audience are at the heart of everything they do
-they take pride in delivering quality and value for money
-creativity is the lifeblood of their organisation
-they respect each other and celebrate their diversity so that everyone can give their best
-they are one BBC; great things happen when they work together
8) What does the licence fee cover? the licence fee is currently £150.50, the fee you have to pay provides a wide range of TV, radio and online content
9) How is the BBC regulated? How long has this body regulated the BBC and who regulated it before? the BBC's regulated by Ofcom, its regulated through an Operating Framework and by setting a licence for the BBC that contains the regulatory conditions the BBC is required to meet. Ofcom started regulating BBC after they abolished the BBC Trust, this was the governing body, Ofcom started regulating the BBC on the 3rd of April 2017.
